Composition Cases
Apply flourishing only where the layout gives it a job.
Case 04 · Short name, wide format
A compact word leaves empty space on both sides. Learners compare an entry extension, an exit extension and a centred solution with no flourish.
Case 08 · Descender conflict
A long descender competes with a lower flourish. The task is to decide which movement should carry the visual weight and simplify the other.
Case 13 · Two-line phrase
An upper-line exit enters the space needed by the second line. Learners revise direction, scale or placement rather than shrinking all the lettering.
Case 19 · Envelope-style layout
A fixed horizontal area requires a restrained solution. Learners plan margins, baseline placement and one flourish before writing the final version.
